*At one time, there were separate days set aside to honor the members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. However, in 1949, these were replaced by a single holiday known as Armed Forces Day.

*Armed Forces Day was first observed in 1950 to honor the men and women who serve in the United States military.

*The U.S. Army is the oldest branch of the Armed Forces. It traces its ancestry back to 14 June 1775, the date on which the Continental Congress first created the Continental Army.

*The youngest branch of the Armed Forces is the U.S. Air Force. It started as the Army Air Corps before becoming a separate branch in 1947.

*The principal offices of the Army, Navy, and Air force are located in the Pentagon.
