President Ulysses Grant - Career & Financial Facts

the quarter roll magazine-In April 1860 Ulysses Grant rented a home for him and his family in Galena for $100 per year. He was earning $600 per year at the time while working at his father's tannery.

-Early in his military career, Ulysses Grant tried part time businesses such as growing potatoes and selling ice with the intent of earning a some extra money to send home to his wife and kids. Both enterprises failed.

-Ulysses Grant got a $20.00 fine for speeding in a horse drawn buggy in Washington DC when he was President of the United States.
