Pawn Stars' Chumlee shows us how to get a discount when car shopping

Everyone who walks into the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas can expect the Harrison family (consisting of the "Old Man", Rick, and Corey) to challenge the amount of money they are asking for their treasure. They are all excellent hagglers. Each member of this "Pawn Star" family has honed their negotiation skills so that they consistently get the best deals, but is Chumlee the best negotiator of them all?

Austin "Chumlee" Russell, also works at the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. Chumlee was in the news back in 2011 for using the haggling skills he's honed from working in the pawn shop when he bought a Maserati for $85,000.00, when the original asking price was $100,000.00, as reported by MotorAuthority.com! Depending on the options you add on, a brand new Maserati can cost up to $140,000.00. Perhaps his celebrity TV status helped him a little in getting the discount, but one thing is for sure, super negotiator Chumlee wouldn't have received it if he didn't ask for it.

According to an article on the WTAE website, Duquesne University marketing professor Audrey Guskey says there is a great chance you can do the same. Guskey said consumer surveys back up her haggling success and that she encourages more shoppers to do so. "Only one in eight people haggle, so it's a very low number, but about 50 percent of those haggling actually get what they're asking for. They get a much better deal," said Guskey.

Can you guess what some of the secrets to successful haggling are? For starters, doing your homework by comparing prices puts you in a better position to negotiate, because you know what a retailer's competitor is charging. Also the article states that persistence, politeness, and being prepared with information pays off.
