Guys Who Got In Big Trouble At Work Over Women
Mike Bowman
Ever
do something at work you regretted later on? Sometimes we act out in the
heat of the moment. Perhaps an angry customer gets under your skin and you
lash out at him, you get rude with a peer or employee, or you accidentally
forward an inappropriate email to the entire department. Everyone has a
bad day, and most bad days are forgivable. However, there are some acts
that are sure bets for getting fired and / or permanently ruining an
otherwise promising career. While you can work your way back from most
mistakes, one thing that is usually a sure fire way to get in huge trouble
at work is sexual harassment or misconduct. With all the awareness around
sexual harassment in the workplace you would think everyone would be on
their best behavior, but as we have seen, people continue to get in
trouble.
That is one thing that even the best performers can not get away with at
work. Even if their indiscretion happened away from work, often times that
act follows them to back to their workplace, where the company finds the
attention or distraction intolerable. They may have done extraordinarily
charitable and generous deeds for others. They may be extremely good at
their chosen professions. However, with one act of indiscretion, all past
contributions are washed away, and their careers were either ended or
permanently damaged. Here are 4 high profile people whose careers were
either ended or damaged because of trouble with women at work. Consider
their mistakes and how inappropriate behavior can ruin everything you have
worked so hard for.
1. President Bill Clinton
In November 1995 President Bill Clinton began a sexual relationship with
Monica Lewinsky. About 2 years later this fact became public and when it
was discovered that the President lied under oath about the incident, the
House Judiciary Committee announced they would consider a resolution to
begin an impeachment inquiry against
President Clinton.
The President came very close to losing his job as he was impeached by the
House of Representatives on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice
on December 19, 1998, but acquitted by the Senate on February 12, 1999.
The Senate needed 2/3 of its 100 Senators to vote yes, but only 45 voted
against the President. However, Clinton's reputation was irreparably
damaged.
2. Tiki Barber
In October 2006, Tiki Barber revealed his intention to retire at the end
of the season. Once retired it didn’t take long for Barber to get a job
offer as a correspondent with NBC, where he enjoyed three successful years
in broadcasting until trouble arrived in 2010. Based on his acts of "moral
indiscretion" with an NBC intern, NBC made the decision to cancel his
broadcasting contract. Since then Barber has struggled to find meaningful
work.
3. Brett Favre
Right after he announced his return for another season with the Minnesota
Vikings in 2010, we discovered that
Brett Favre had been texting lewd
photographs of himself to cheerleader Jenn Sterger. While the texting and
messages may not have occurred while he was at work, some argued that the
major distraction of dealing with the media frenzy and personal turmoil,
this discovery created, was a major factor in his inability to complete
the season; that season became Favre's last in the NFL.
4. Anthony Weiner
On Friday, May 27, 2011,
Congressman Anthony Weiner
sent a lewd photo of himself to a 21-year-old female college student in
Seattle. The incident was discovered and soon more photos were discovered.
Weiner initially denied he sent the photos and stated he is the victim of
an internet hacker. By June 6 he admitted he had been lying about the
incident and apologized for his actions. However, there was such pressure
from Congress for his resignation that he was forced to give up his career
as a Congressman.
